Reddit scan:Our Makerspace is about to purchase a 100W 1390 laser cutter, and we want to make sure that we're not going to regret any of our choices. We've have a small FullSpectrum laser cutter that is controlled with RetinaEngrave, and we had a large laser loaned to us that was controlled by what appeared to be a derivative of LaserCut.The new machine seems to be controlled by a piece of software called "RD Works" which I've seen mentioned on this sub a few times. It runs off a controller that appears to be called an "RD Color" controller that looks like this.Is this a decent combination of controller and host software? Most of our vector design is in Inkscape or Illustrator, so as long as we can make file output from those work, we'd be happy.Any features we'd be missing out on that some other controllers or software might provide for a machine like this?More specs about the machine we're looking at, if you're interested:Cutting area: 1300 x 900mmLaser power: 100WLaser type: CO2 Reci W2Table: HoneycombCooling system: Water chiller CW3000Cutting speed: 0-4000cm/minFeatures:Motorized Z-AxisRotary axisRed laser pointerCost: $3650 FOBThanks! http://ift.tt/2uE9TXo by Towson Makerspace
